Step 1

Needs assessment

The Sens hospital wanted to reinforce the safety of perioperative care. The objective: to involve all of its healthcare professionals working in the operating room (Anesthesiologists, Surgeons, Nurse Anesthetists, and Scrub Nurses) in a program promoting teamwork, proper completion of the HAS checklist, and management of task interruptions.
This desire was supported by the entire governance with the leadership of the risk management director and the support of the risk management coordinator.

Step 2

Deployment

After a meeting with the people carrying the project, all learners were registered on the platform using the information provided by the training managers.

Then, a 100% e-learning training session, lasting 1 hour, was carried out. This started in early November 2021 and ended on December 3, 2021 with an in-person debriefing.

Step 3

In-person debriefing

Friday, December 3, 2021, an all-day event in the operating theater: apart from a team stationed in the emergency room, all healthcare professionals are mobilized to debrief in a large room at the hospital.
Conviviality, benevolence, learning and experience sharing are the watchwords.
The SafeTeam Academy's teaching team, made up of one of the founders who is a human factors expert, a former Mirage 2000 simulator instructor and a visiting expert from the HAS, lead the discussions, which are focused on the objectives to be achieved.
Several themes emerged during the first part of the day: checklists, task interruptions, difficult behavior in the operating room, teamwork... Several working groups were then set up around each theme, and at the end of the day, they would submit a summary of their action plan to management.
The healthcare team emerged enthusiastic and united by the improvement measures put in place. Everyone was able to express themselves, ask questions and share their experiences.
The members of the Quality & Risk Management department who attended the debriefing also left with the anonymized quantitative and qualitative data generated by the hundred or so caregivers who completed the training on the platform.

Step 1

Needs assessment

Rouen University Hospital has notable expertise in robotic thoracic surgery. This expertise, developed in particular by Jean Marc BASTE, who has implemented crisis checklists, should be shared across all surgical specialties using the surgical robot, both within the University Hospital and elsewhere.
Full-scale simulation is already used for these complex scenarios but does not allow for the training of enough professionals. The University Hospital wishes to acquire a new, ultra-immersive pedagogical modality that can be carried out in e-learning and train several hundred healthcare professionals quickly and repeatedly over time.

Step 2

Pre-production & Filming

The anesthesia and surgical team at Rouen University Hospital, accompanied by human factors experts and educational experts from SafeTeam Academy, is united around an innovative training project composed of several stages: a writing stage, a questioning stage, and a filming stage during which the team is filmed managing a simulated uncontrolled hemorrhage in robotic surgery.

Step 3

Exploitation of the pedagogical device

After filming, comes post-production and implementation on the platform.
Then, the digital training device is made available with a number of open accesses. This also allows the team to train on other themes in the SafeTeam Academy's training catalog, which grows every month.

Step 1

Needs assessment

The training team at the Mâcon hospital simulation center wants to acquire a powerful e-learning training tool in order to enhance full-scale simulation sessions and implement blended learning.
The trainers also want to offer intermediate or advanced level simulation sessions on safety tools, which can be discovered prior to the full-scale simulation session.

Step 2

Deployment

The deployment is initiated by a briefing training which introduces human factors and healthcare safety tools such as cognitive aids.
At the end of this training, the team of trainers receives access to the platform, allowing them to freely create training sessions from the catalog made available.
The accesses made available can be reassigned each month, allowing to train healthcare professionals from various departments.

Step 3

In-person debriefing

At the end of each e-learning session, the training team conducts a debriefing allowing healthcare professionals to revisit and question their practices. These exchange sessions can be combined with a full-scale simulation session allowing the training team to test (and stress test) the new safety tools acquired by the learners.
