Respectful treatment in nursing homes

Two workshops organized by the CCECQA

Positive Treatment in Nursing Homes: How Can I Implement This Approach at My Facility?

The Importance of Positive Care in Nursing Homes

Positive treatment in nursing homes is crucial to ensuring the well-being, dignity, and quality of life of residents. Promoting positive treatment involves strengthening a model of support and care for residents in these facilities that prioritizes their needs, expectations, and preferences. This means encouraging residents to actively participate in decisions regarding their care. Fostering a culture of compassionate care ultimately helps to improve the safety of care and, more broadly, to enhance the health of residents.

Founded by two physicians committed to improving patient safety and the quality of care, the mission of the SafeTeam Academy is to promote a culture of kindness and safety within healthcare facilities, with a focus on care and reducing medical errors. Dedicated modules have been developed to achieve this objective: Human Factors and Well-being in Older Adults (P13.2) Managing Behavioral Disorders in Older Adults (P13.1) Distributing Meals While Respecting Health Standards and Taking into Account the Needs of Residents in Nursing Homes (P17.1) href="https://www.safeteam.academy/product/p17-2">Personalizing Resident Support in Nursing Homes (P17.2)

Two CCECQA Workshops

As a major and long-standing player in risk management in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and France, the CCECQA undoubtedly shares the mission of the SafeTeam Academy. Establishing a partnership between the two organizations was a natural step toward promoting this culture of safety and compassionate care among healthcare professionals. The SafeTeam Academy is therefore delighted to share its compassionate care module with the CCECQA to lead their workshops!

A message from the director of the CCECQA

“Working with a team to improve care can simply mean encouraging them to reflect on their daily routine. Taking a step back from one’s practice, collaborating to create solutions, sharing perspectives, working in a friendly atmosphere, and rediscovering team dynamics are all elements that foster a culture of patient safety. The CCECQA, alongside Forap, has long been committed to promoting respectful care through the production of guides and tools. Today, in a context where recent events in nursing homes have deeply affected staff, residents, and families, rekindling motivation and a sense of purpose in one’s work is crucial. Talking about it is essential. Thus, the regular use of scenario analysis—which allows for open discussion of situations from other settings to prevent similar situations locally—has demonstrated its impact on developing a safety culture. This is why the CCECQA is developing a partnership with the SafeTeam Academy to complement the digital simulation tools available to professionals in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
