🔷 Overview

Since 2010, the implementation of a checklist has been mandatory as part of the healthcare facilities certification procedure. This training provides an opportunity to review best practices related to the completion of the checklist and to educate professionals about its impact on the quality of care.

🔷 Description

Pre-requisites:

  • Be a healthcare system professional

Duration:

  • 1 hour 15 minutes independently
  • 1 hour in a group (videoconference debriefing)

HAS certification criteria:

  • Criterion 2.3-09: Interventional sector teams improve their practices by analyzing how the « Patient Safety » checklist is completed.
  • Criterion 3.2-04: The hospital trains its professionals in risk management using healthcare simulation tools.

  • Scenario created in collaboration with a human factors expert and airline pilot, based on a real-life case.
  • Filmed interview with an expert in human factors in healthcare and Adverse Event Management (AEM) on the impact of task interruptions and the functioning of our brain.

PART 1: autonomous, asynchronous

    • Immersive video-simulation depicting the daily life of an operating room team as they carry out the checklist, from patient intake to the occurrence of an operating incident.
    • Filmed interview: synthesis and analysis of the situation.

    • Specialized HAS checklist models for download (customizable for a tailor-made project).
    • Understand the impact of checklists and task interruptions.
    • Mastering the best practices for using the checklist (video).
    • Identify the impact of task interruptions: 7-min interview with a human factors in healthcare expert, Dr. Thomas Lopes.

PART 2: collective, videoconference debriefing

  • Video-simulation debriefing with a human factors expert
    • Identify discrepancies between professional practice and best practices for completing the checklist.

    • Establish an individual and collective action plan to strengthen teamwork.
