🔷 Overview

This training course reviews all the stages of managing a patient in cardiopulmonary arrest in the operating room.

🔷 Description

Pre-requisites:

  • Be a healthcare system professional

Duration:

  • 1 hour independently
  • 1 hour in a group (videoconference debriefing)

HAS certification criteria:

  • Criterion 2.2-12: Teams are proficient in managing life-threatening emergencies.
  • Criterion 3.2-04: The hospital trains its professionals in risk management using healthcare simulation tools.

🔷 Strengths

  • Raising awareness of the importance of human factors in teamwork in emergency situations: leadership, workload management, use of cognitive aids, situational awareness, communication.
  • Filmed interview with Frédéric Martin, founder of SafeTeam Academy and anesthesiologist-intensivist.
  • Mixed format, combining video immersion, individual reflection and collective debriefing.

🔷 Program

PART 1: autonomous, asynchronous

  • ‍Introduction totraining
  • Pre-test (positioning test)
  • Video simulation
    • Immersive video-simulation of a patient undergoing sinus surgery (meatotomy) in the operating room. Shortly after induction, the patient goes into cardiorespiratory arrest. The entire team mobilized to resuscitate the patient.
    • Filmed interview: synthesis and analysis of the situation.
  • Summary of key points to remember
    • Ludopedagogical activity to analyze the organization of teamwork: placement of equipment and various caregivers according to their specific roles and skills in the context of a cardiorespiratory arrest.
  • ‍Post-test (measuring progress and validating skills) & Action plan
  • ‍Training assessment

PART 2: collective, videoconference debriefing

  • Video-simulation debriefing with a teamwork expert
    • Identify discrepancies between professional practice and best practices to improve the management of life-threatening emergencies.
    • Identify individual and team areas for improvement.
    • Establish an individual and collective action plan to strengthen teamwork.
