Identity vigilance: ensuring the reliability of the care pathway.
Delays in care, diagnostic or treatment errors, and incorrect information exchanges are still frequent, and they sometimes have serious consequences for patients' health and their medical journey. Therefore, correct patient identification is of crucial importance to ensure the safety of care.
What is identity vigilance?
This includes all the measures put in place to reinforce the accuracy of patient identification, thereby ensuring the protection of their health data at all stages of their care. The first step in this process, which extends throughout the duration of care by the various health professionals, regardless of their specialty, their field of activity, or their support methods, is the correct identification of the patient.

The risks associated with incorrect identification are numerous:
- Administration of care to the wrong patient
- Delayed care
- diagnostic errors
- errors in treatment
- exchange of erroneous information between team members
Our new course: Identity vigilance in healthcare facilities
To contribute to risk reduction, SafeTeam Academy has developed a new identitovigilance course in partnership with La Prévention Médicale.
This course enables learners to:
- Mastering the rules of good practice in primary and secondary identification.
- Recognizing the impact of an identity error
- Improve patient identification by implementing identity vigilance actions
Partnership with La Prévention Médicale
Designing and developing this module with La Prévention Médicale made sense, as the association has positioned itself as a leader in risk management in France for over 10 years.
