Why the SafeTeam Academy?
To improve patient safety and the quality of care through the development of soft skills and human factors in healthcare.

In 2022, medical errors were among the top 10 causes of death according to the WHO*. These accidents are partly due to communication breakdowns, information sharing failures, distractions, and task interruptions*.

While healthcare facilities implement numerous strategies and deploy tools to limit serious adverse events, reducing accidents in healthcare remains a challenge. The demand for care and the number of patients requiring treatment, in particular, increase every year. Medical conditions are becoming increasingly complex. Interactions between healthcare professionals are growing exponentially, and human resources are under strain, especially after two years of the pandemic. The SafeTeam Academy was designed by healthcare professionals with expertise in these areas, with the goal of developing teamwork and patient safety, and with the desire to support all stakeholders in the healthcare system towards a more humane approach to medicine. Where does the name SafeTeam Academy come from? SafeTeam is a variation of "Safety." But it also translates to "a safe team" in the sense of security, an equivalent used in some industries. We believe that the current challenge in healthcare is to transform a team of experts into an expert team. And fortunately, solutions exist, such as taking human factors into account. In concrete terms, this involves developing soft skills such as teamwork, workload management, communication, situational awareness, and self-awareness (stress and fatigue management). This investment, necessary for our patients, also addresses a need among healthcare professionals, who are constantly striving to improve the quality of their care. To train healthcare professionals in these skills, simulation has become essential in just a few years as a key training tool for high-risk professions. Since 2010, the French National Authority for Health (HAS) has promoted simulation in healthcare, and a comprehensive guide on this topic was published in 2019. The SafeTeam Academy is a training platform (Learning Management System, also known as LMS) hosting innovative, immersive video training courses that simulate healthcare situations. These courses may be produced by SafeTeam Academy or developed in partnership with other organizations that have expertise in a particular field (simulation centers, healthcare facilities, manufacturers, etc.).

In practice, it involves putting cinema at the service of learning through personalized short films.

The SafeTeam Academy leverages the realism and authenticity of video immersion to facilitate the analysis of practices, the acquisition of new skills, and the transfer of knowledge into practice.

This concept serves a mission: to improve patient safety, more generally to optimize the performance of care, and the well-being of healthcare professionals.

The uses are multiple:

  • optimize the impact of a full-scale simulation session by introducing concepts through e-learning beforehand
  • re-expose healthcare professionals remotely to a video-immersive situation that challenges their practices
  • train all healthcare professionals in a facility or department on a large scale and quickly, while maintaining patient care
  • unite teams around a common project to improve the quality of Care
  • Improve the safety culture and conduct a safety audit during a mass training event.
  • Improve the quality of working life and conduct an HR audit during a mass training event.
